The CMC recognizes outstanding corporations from all over the country that have created, expanded or partnered on mentoring initiatives this year. SOY has two great events coming up this year to put on your calendar! On February 9 we have our Family Fun Day at the Vermeer Pavilion in Pella. There will be games, inflatables and food all for a free will donation! This is a great community event and we have it underwritten by local businesses.

We are also pleased to announce our upcoming 2nd annual 5K Walk/Run. It will be held at Grey’s Lake in Des Moines on April 13. We will need walker/runners and volunteers to help the day of the event. Please help us spread the word… more details to follow soon!

January is National Mentoring Month and as we take time to honor those famous in the world for their words and actions related to mentoring, we also take time to honor those who are famous to us in each of our own lives for the wisdom, council, love and Jesus-like Spirit they showed to us when we were in need. Thank you!!!

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation. And here’s why:

I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,

Here are 10 things you can do in January to help support mentoring:

1.Become a mentor in your community.
2.Learn more about mentoring.
3.Partner with a mentoring organization.
4.Join “I Am a Mentor” Day on January 10.
5.Think about the mentors in your life, post a tribute to them online, then tweet about them using the #NationalMentoringMonth hashtag.
6.Read the latest research and find resources on mentoring.
7.Serve your community on MLK Day of Service, January 13, by deciding to become a mentor.
8.Make a donation to a mentoring organization in your community.
9.Go to YouTube on Thank Your Mentor Day™ (January 17) and make the National Mentoring Month videos the most popular of the day.
