Des Moines Metro
We have many opportunities for service in the Des Moines Metro area. When we started in 1999 our first ministry was to the youth at Polk County Youth Services where we provided our visitation program (one-to-one visitation, and informal mentoring) and then later our chaplaincy programs (Bible discussion groups and volunteer chaplains).
To learn more about our visitation programs, please contact Karen Sieg. To learn more about our chaplaincy programs contact Shane Vander Hart.
We also provide community based mentoring working with children and youth who have been impacted by incarceration. We serve these youth through our Amachi mentoring program. To learn about our Amachi mentoring opportunities in Des Moines, please contact Karen Sieg.
After serving youth in placement since 1999 we saw the need for providing aftercare services and mentoring for youth transitioning back into the Des Moines Metro area after being incarcerated for an extended period of time. in 2010 we launched our Second Chance T.E.A.M.s program in order to help provide support for those youth. If you are interested in learning more about mentoring with Second Chance please contact Shane Vander Hart.
We also have a Prevention Through Mentoring program which works with youth ages 5-18 who have been impacted by substance abuse and who live in Polk County. If you are interested in that you can contact Sarah Moore.
If you are interested in applying to be a volunteer you can download an application here and email it or mail it to our main office in Pella (or you can contact one of our staff as well).
