Amachi Mentors

Thank you for your interest in Amachi Mentoring.   Mentors are trusted friends and guides.  We desire to match safe, caring adults with these kids who matter so much to God and us.

Our basic mentor qualifications/responsibilities for mentors  in the Amachi Mentoring Program program are:

  • Be at least 18-years of age or older (21-years of age if working with incarcerated youth).
  • Successfully complete our mentor training and screening process.
  • Ability to commit to meeting with your mentee for a year on a weekly basis.
  • Our mentors spend an average of one hour a week with our mentees.
  • Regular communication with SOY Staff (each mentor will be assigned to a coordinator who will be responsible for your match).
  • Agreement to attend at least two of our quarterly trainings offered each year.
  • Agreement to submit a monthly activity log.

We serve youth throughout Central and Southern Iowa so there  are mentoring opportunities near you.  SOY understands that mentoring is a big commitment. We work closely with our volunteers to prepare, encourage and support them in their relationships with their mentees. This happens through initial orientations, training, screening, on-going educational opportunities, staff contact and church ministry teams.

If you are interested in taking the next step you can sign up our next Introduction to Mentoring Orientation you can also download an application packet here.
