Al Perez
Al Perez joined Serve Our Youth Network in 2011 as a mentor recruiter for our community based mentoring program in Des Moines. Al is originally a native of Chicago and moved to Iowa 13 years ago with the call to work with the Eastern Iowa Youth For Christ chapter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Al initially received Christ as Savior 25 years ago in a basketball outreach at the church he attended in Chicago. Al responded to the call to ministry and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Studies from Christian Life College in Illinois. He has served in pastoral ministry for nearly 20 years both as a lead pastor and youth pastor. Al’s passion is connecting with what he would call “Kingdom people”, who have a desire to work cross-culturally, cross-denominationally, and cross-generationally. It was a mentor that gave Al a “second chance” and help him aim in the right direction for his life. That is why he is working with the team at Serve Our Youth. Al believes that Serve Our Youth embraces the very life mission statement that he adheres to. Al is married to wife Jody, and RN who works in the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at Blanks Children’s Hospital. They have 2 children Aidan and Anna. Al also co-pastors currently at Destiny Church in West Des Moines as their spiritual formation pastor. Al and his family currently reside in Ankeny, Iowa.
