Are We Placing Limits on How High Teens Can Jump?

October 10, 2011

Kara Powell shared an interesting video about fleas in a jar.  I know that sounds riveting, but apparently if you place fleas in a jar they will become conditioned to jump only as high as the lid goes – even when the lid is removed.  Their offspring does the same thing.  Watch below.

You may be asking what does this have to do with youth? This serves as an illustration of how we can as churches, and even as a culture condition youth to limit themselves and not exercise gifts and abilities they may have.  One of the blessings of being part of a new church is that my two oldest children are finding ways to exercise their gifts in the youth ministry and without.  What are you doing to teach your young people to jump higher?
